The difference between multi-wire winding and single-wire winding for motor
When designing a brushless motor, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of many motor parameters and components, and the stator coil is one of the important components. Motor stator winding machine also has a lot of requirements but also contains a lot of parameters, such as stator outer diameter, stator inner diameter, stator stack thickness, several wires and winding, wire diameter, number of turns, how many slots, slot distance and so on. Why do motor coils use 10 strands, 20 strands, or even 30 strands of enameled wire when winding, and use a thicker strand instead of winding?
For many people, it's unclear what sets multi-wire internal winding apart from single-wire internal winding when it comes to the standard automatic internal winding machine equipment. They know there's a multi-wire winding and a single-wire winding, but don't fully grasp the specifics. So, let's delve into the details!
Generally speaking, when the wire diameter is thicker, it becomes more challenging to wind. This is mainly because there is a higher risk of damaging or scraping the wire. Winding machines typically have stricter requirements for wire diameter. For single-wire winding, the diameter should generally not exceed 1.3mm. If it is more than that, it becomes difficult and may require a customized machine. When it comes to multi-wire winding, each line should not exceed 0.7mm in diameter. If the diameter is greater than that, it becomes difficult. However, if the wire is less than 0.5mm in diameter, using 3 or 4 wires for winding presents no problem.
When a motor operates and current flows through the coil, a phenomenon called skin effect occurs. This effect weakens the overcurrent capability to some extent. Therefore, multi-wire winding generally offers better overcurrent capability compared to a single line.
In terms of efficiency, if conditions allow, employing multi-wire parallel winding is advantageous as it can improve the efficiency of the winding process to a certain extent.
The difference between multi-wire winding and single-wire winding in a stator winding machine is as follows. Generally, single-strand winding and multi-strand winding each have their own advantages. The choice of winding method primarily depends on the specific requirements of the products.
